Car rental services are available in most major cities, however most travelers to China will not need to rent a car. Local and long-distance destinations are all accessible by cheap and convenient public transportation. However, this is beginning to change as more and better highways are constructed (China is developing one of the world‘s most advanced systems).
Keep in mind that, for now at least, rental and insurance fees tend to be quite high for international travelers. We recommend renting through Ctrip.com as the quickest, easiest and most cost-effective way to go. 中国有专业的租车公司,(至尊租车)

You can rent a self-drive car in China through various companies, but you must have a Chinese driving licence in order to do so, an international driving permit is not acceptable. Zhizun cost about Y500 a day.
